Born on 21 March 1970 to Dr. Anandam and late Mr Chandrakumar in Kerala, Shobana Chandrakumar, commonly known as Shobana, is an exponent of Bharatanatyam and a leading actress of South Indian motion pictures.

Shobana acted for the first time in a leading role in the Malayalam motion picture "April 18" in 1984, directed by Balachandra Menon. Shobana won her first National Film Award for Best Actress from the government of India in 1994 for her performance in Fazil's Manichitrathazhu.

Queen of Indian Tracks and Field

Padma Shri Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha, better known as Payyoli Express and internationally renowned as the Queen of Indian Tracks and Field, is a multi-gold medallist in Asian Games. Usha created history in the 10th Asian Games held in Seoul in 1986, owning four gold medals and one silver. Earlier in the Asian Games held in 1982, she won two silver medals making the hosting country proud.

Usha was born in the village of Payyoli, Kozhikode District, Kerala. In 1976 the Kerala State Government started a Sports School for women, and Usha was chosen to represent her district.
